FAQ RESEARCH PAPER/UNIVERSITY, COLLAGE Q: I am a University / Collage student and working on a project, research paper on Human Trafficking. I would like to interview Timea on her experience, and or a victim she worked with. Can we set up a time and place?
A: Unfortunately Walk With Me Canada Victim Services can not participate in research studies or School Projects at this time. Timea and her team are focusing on working with victims of Human Trafficking on a daily basis or providing training somewhere in Canada or the United States. For security reasons we will not provide any access to victims and survivors we have worked with or working with. BUT, Timea has written books, and created educational tool kits that will be able to provide information for you and your class on the Mindset of a Trafficked victim and Domestic Sex Trafficking. Please visit : FREE RESOURCES FOR YOUTH AND PARENTS link on this website. Timea also writing a blog, and brings us several topics that might provide more insight to the world of Human Trafficking, Victims, Mindset, Society and more. http://timeasview.wordpress.com/
WANT TO START A SAFE HOUSE Q: Our group is thinking about setting up a Safe House in Canada. Can we get a tour of Walk With Me's Safe House, and or Manuals, Policies, and Procedures? A: We are always extremely grateful to hear about organizations and individuals who are trying to make a huge difference in our line of work by trying to start Safe Houses and other support system. Unfortunately we can not offer a tour of our Safe house and won't be able to share our Policy and Procedures over email with groups and individuals we have never met for Safety reasons. Please email Jill Trites our Executive Director for organizations in the United States who do offer consultation on this topic. Jill.T@walk-with-me.org
WANT TO INTERVIEW A VICTIM FOR A DOCUMENTARY OR INTERVIEW? Q: I am a documentary film maker and I am currently working on a documentary film on Human Trafficking in Canada. I would like to interview victims of Human Trafficking. We will cover their identity to ensure their safety. Can you please put me in touch with a victim or survivor?
A: Unfortunately we will not be able to help with any such a request. Our agency is a Victim Service Agency. Our job is to keep the victims safe and to protect their identity, create a safe environment for their healing journey. Most often the victims are hiding from their traffickers that hasn't been arrested yet. Most often our files are still ongoing cases before the court system. But most importantly our agency provides victim care, not a talent management. It is our agency policy to keep all clients name, information and story highly confidential.
Timea's thoughts: "I must say that while I understand the importance of raising awareness, I am starting to feel a bit frustrated with these type of requests on a daily basis. I believe that the story of Sex Trafficking is constantly being intercommunicated, misunderstood, misrepresented by media for years. Media believes that the only way we can educate the public by telling the story of a victim. I strongly disagree with that.
Why didn't we interview and create poster children's out victim's of Child Molestation? Why don't we have 6-10 years old children being interviewed about being a victim of a Pedophile? Because we understand the crime, and we would like to make sure we don't re-traumatize the children. Their parents protect their identities, Police protect the information that is still before courts. Victims of Human Trafficking should be treated the same way. They are hurt, scared, traumatized and need to be protected. They are human beings, girls, boys and man who were just victimized by a terrible crime. There is probably an ongoing Police investigation as well regarding her/his case, meaning any information that would be published can jeopardize the case. I think its time for us to move away from trying to find a front page story or a poster child, and try to cover the real issue, try to create prevention films instead of a "poor victim stories". There is enough stories online now, that we as a society probably can get a good idea on what is a victim of trafficking is going through. There are hardly any prevention, education, root cause related documentaries, PSA's, books or videos out there. My suggestion is, that if you would like to create something, get educated, and find a way to help us to create awareness without re victimizing the survivors and victims."
SCHOOL PRESENTATIONS, FREE RESOURCES Q: I am a teacher and would like to do a presentation for my class on Domestic Sex Trafficking? Please visit :www.projectinnocencecanada.org and order your free toolkit. NATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS MUSEUM, WINNIPEG Q: I saw Timea's story in Winnipeg, at the National Human Rights Museum. It was a 3 minutes video with her story and an interview with her. Can I get a copy of that material? Unfortunately Timea has no copy of the Exhibition that was created on her story at the Museum. If you visit www.timeaenagy.com / media link, there are a few videos displayed with her story. You can show any of those videos at your presentations or events.
CLOTHING, FURNITURE DONATION Q: I belong to a group/church/workplace, and we collecting gently used donations for your safe house and victims. Where can we drop off the donations? Thank you so much for thinking of us and our cause. Unfortunately we can't take used clothing or furniture donations at this time. We do not have a storage facility and we also don't have enough volunteer staff to go through to donations to make sure that the items are something that our survivors could actually make use for. We kindly ask for Gift card donations instead. Tim Hortons, Mac Donalds, Walmart, Target, Shoppers Drugmart store cards are always extremely useful.
